Instrument building is a scientific field and manufacturing sector involving the development and production of automatic and computerized control systems, instruments to monitor and measure equipment operating parameters, and systems to analyze, process, and transmit data.

At the forefront of the instrument building industry are measuring instruments. These measure mechanical, electrical, thermal, magnetic, optical, radiation, and other parameters. Instruments are also used in the strength testing of materials and structures for the engineering, metallurgical, construction, and other industries. Analytical instrument building is concerned with the production of devices to identify the composition and concentration of substances in various environments, materials, and products.

Instrument building makes use of advances in microelectronics, micromechanics, optoelectronics, nonlinear optics, information science, and computer technology. This promotes the development of compact, cost effective, and reliable measuring, analytical, and other instruments and control, telemetry, and automation systems. Monocrystals with special physical properties, semiconductor and epitaxial films, liquid crystals, and magnetostrictive elements are used as sensitive receptor, converting, and indicator mediums.

All this creates a demand for translation in the field of instrument building, including technical datasheets, descriptions, instrument and equipment specifications, user and safety manuals, and other documentation, together with a demand for interpreting services (consecutive and simultaneous) during the production process itself and during talks on equipment production and transportation.

Among the major projects to date for which we have provided translation support are:

  • A project to implement an ophthalmic instrument system based on a femtosecond laser technique of noninvasive reconstructive eye surgery for the Fedorov Eye Microsurgery Center
  • A project entitled Computerized Vehicle Monitoring Systems that uses digital cellular and satellite communication channels
  • Road traffic monitoring instruments
