The Shtokman gas/condensate field is located in the central part of the Russian continental shelf 300 kilometers west of Novaya Zemlya archipelago. It is one of the largest fields in the world, with in-place reserves estimated at 3.9 trillion m3 of gas and around 56 million tonnes of gas condensate.
The project operator is SDAG (Shtokman Development AG).
What makes the project unprecented is that gas will be produced beyond the Arctic Circle in harsh climatic conditions far from shore and at a considerable depth, requiring unique production and transportation techniques. The field development program will be in three phases, encompassing the full cycle from field studies through treatment and transportation. One component of the project will be to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant.
Our participation in the project
Our company took part in providing translation support for the project in 2009-2012. For a long time we were SDAG’s only subcontractor.
We translated documentation on a huge variety of subjects, including geological and geophysical surveys, scientific research, drilling and production, supply logistics, subsea pipeline construction, construction of the production vessel, design of the LNG plant and export gas train, general construction and transportation issues, and power supply and communication systems ‒ all the way up to internal corporate policies and negotiations with government agencies and financial institutions.
In addition, we provided interpreting services at the annual sum-up conferences.
